Joe Harmon successfully design the world’s first wooden sport car. The wooden sport automobile called The Splinter. The automobile part mostly prefabricated from wood which is combination of plywood, maple and MDF to be precise. It nearly entirely constructed from wood, not only the body and the chassis, even the interior, the chair, the steering wheel and column, the suspension and wheels.

The wooden sport automobile have measures about 4.6 meter-long and weighs of 1,134-kg. It has a 4.6 liter V8 petrol engine and a six-speed gearbox. This wooden sport automobile even can speeding up to top speed of 240 mph. With that speed it can match and even surpass the speed of sports automobile like a Porsche or Lamborghini.

Joe Harmon is a North Carolina Say University student. He worked with fellow undergraduate designers to create this world’s first wooden super automobile for his thesis. According to cars.uk.msn.com, Harmon stated that this project is a scholastic endeavour in which they are simply trying to explore materials, learn, teach, share ideas and stimulate the creativity. Wood has a higher strength-to-weight ratio than aluminium or steel. Harmon add that the super automobile designed to near boundaries and establish that wood have good potential as the material.

With this project he hopes that it will help him to find a good job in design. If The Splinter makes for production, it would be a nice leap and maybe the creators could have an illustrious career like British automobile company, Morgan who also making automobiles from wood where the company then became one of the most successful British specialist automobile makers until today.
